The Michigan Junior Masters Association descended on Pinz of Kalamazoo on September 10th for our third stop on the 2016-17 season. Taylor Davis (Burton, MI) ended a long dry spell as she captured her 9th Michigan Junior Masters Association title while Alex Ouellette (Linwood, MI) snatched the boys title for his 4th MJMA title in the U20 division.

Davis had posted the top qualifying score for the ladies and earned the top seed going into the bracket portion of the event. Davis and Brittney Kinney (Columbia City, IN) received byes in the first round and awaited the winners in the preliminary rounds. Those rounds were a challenge for our top seeds as Kailee Tubbs (Flint, MI) the #5 seed defeated the #4 seed Hannah Ploof (Flint, MI) and Samantha Gainor (Chesterfield, MI) took out the #3 seed Imari Blond (Flint, MI) to advance to the semi finals.

In the semi-finals the top seeded bowlers reversed the trends as Davis and Kinney both advanced to the finals with wins. The finals proved interesting as Davis built a good lead after the first game but had to hold on as Kinney made her game two charge but fell just short as Davis captured the win and her 9th title 388-372.

Ouellette also held the top qualifier position after the six-game round shooting a fine 1305. He, however, had to face off against the #8 seed Marcus McClain (Lincoln Park, MI) who had beaten Ouellette in the last event for the title. Ouellette was looking to put that loss behind him and did with a come from behind 421-417 win to advance to round two. Sam Brandt (Fremont, MI), Sean Taylor (Hastings, MI) and Trevor Morgan (Kalamazoo, MI) joined Ouellette in the final four round.

Ouellette continued his lane dominance as he outed Brandt 465-349 while Taylor made it to his first MJMA final by winning his match against Morgan 373-330. In the finals though it was all Ouellette as he rolled another great two-game set and captured his 4th MJMA title 457-346.

In the U15 division, Allison Robbins (Mt Morris, MI) led through the qualifying round but her friend and teammate, Emilea Sturk (Flint, MI) found what she needed in the match play portion and won her second MJMA U15 ladies title with a 350-269 win. The boys U15 division produced its third different winner in as many events as Cameron Klein (Taylor, MI), who led qualifying, defeated the #2 qualifier Bradley Folks (Belleville, MI) 282-268 to take his very first MJMA U15 title.

Our next event is the 2nd Annual Richfield Open at Richfield Bowl in Richfield, Michigan. The event takes place on October 1st and 2nd with qualifying beginning at 11:00am on Saturday, October 1st. The 8-game qualifier will be follow up on Sunday with the match play portion which begins at 9:00am.
