The Michigan Junior Masters Association rolled into its annual regular season final stop in Grand Rapids at Spectrum Lanes. Mike Eaton and the team at Spectrum Lanes are always gracious hosts and this year was no exception as 82 bowlers converged to test themselves on the very challenging Junior Gold pattern from 2016. Hannah Forton (Macomb, MI) and Alex Ouellette (Linwood, MI) led the way through qualifying in the U20 division while Cameron Klein (Taylor, MI) and Kadence Bottrall (Dorr, MI) led the U15 divisions.

During the matchplay rounds Ouellette and Klein managed to maintain their top seeds but both Forton and Bottrall dropped to the number two seed going into stepladders as Julia Huren (Westland, MI) and Samantha Timm (Flint, MI) each took over the top spots for U20 and U15 respectively.

The biggest move of the day came in the U20 boys division as Ryan Winters moved from the #11 qualifying position to the #2 position going into stepladders. That hot streak would continue through the stepladders as he defeated Sam Brandt (Freemont, MI) and Ouellette to earn his 11th MJMA title. Huren would also take advantage of gaining the top spot in the stepladders as she defeated Imari Blond (Flint, MI) in the finals after Blond had won the first two matches to advance from her #4 qualifying position.

The U15 division saw both leaders after match-play earn victories as Klein defeated newcomer Kyle Pranger (Rockford, MI) 185‐154 and Timm defeated Bottrall 186‐128. In all it was a good showing for the U15 division as we had 9 competitors in the two divisions to wrap up our inaugural season with this division.

Our next event is the season ending Daniel C Ottman Memorial Championships at the Monroe Sport Center on June 9, 10 & 11, 2017. This is an invitational event and this year 60 of our bowlers have earned their ticket to compete for the coveted “Eagle” that goes to our champions. Invitation will be in the mail shortly so look for those and get them back as soon as possible.

It has been a very good season this year and for those who will not be at Monroe, please have a wonderful and safe summer and we will see you in August at the season kick off event on Saturday, August 5th in Belleville at Lodge Lanes.
